A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, he went to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. Jay passed away at home surrounded by his wife and four angels, his children. He was 83, born on June 19, 1928, in Monroe. Jay is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Aline Henley Blackwell children, John Barry Blackwell and wife Barbara, Paul Jeffrey Blackwell and wife Dianne, Mary Elizabeth Arceneaux and husband Craig, Randal Neal Blackwell Sr. and wife Donna. Also, survived by stepbrother, Lamar Byrd and wife Nora nephew, Willie Cook Byrd nieces, Shirley Lewis and Kathy Mikeska, all of Bogalusa. He was a loving pawpaw to Heather Thibodeaux and husband Shane, Suzanne Causin and husband Ryan, Lekisha Blackwell, Marianne Blackwell, Patrick Blackwell, Brandon Arceneaux, Meaghan Keel and husband Daniel, Randy Blackwell Jr., and John R. Blackwell his precious greatgrandchildren, Breanna and Ty Causin, Aubre, Shane and Aimee Thibodeaux. Also, survived by dear fishing friend of many years, Lewis Moore. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Monday, Jan. 16, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 9 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Miles Walsh. Interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Preceded in death by parents, Wiley Albert Blackwell and Elba Zerre Blackwell loving stepmother Maw Evie Blackwell brother, Jim Blackwell and nephew, Jimmy Blackwell Jr. He was retired from Heat and Frost Insulators Local Union 53. Pallbearers will be Brandon Arceneaux, Randy Blackwell Jr., John R. Blackwell, Ryan Causin, Daniel Keel and Shane Thibodeaux. Honorary pallbearer is Patrick Blackwell. The Blackwell family extends heartfelt thanks to Jays R.N.s, Solomon, Jessica M., Melanie, Jessica S. and Tara. Also, a special debt of gratitude to Constance, Rev. Jimmy, Nancy and everyone from Life Source and Acadian Medical. Additional thanks to Dr. Joseph Albergamo and Dr. Bryan Gremillion.
