Jocelyn Clare Gerard, a beloved resident of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on January 4, 1927, in Denver, Colorado, to Francis and Frances Smith Gerard. Jocelyn’s journey took her across the United States, Europe, and Saudi Arabia, reflecting a life filled with adventure and compassion.
After attending Business School, Jocelyn found her true passion in caring for children. Her dedication to this calling was evident in the bonds she formed with those she cared for. Many of these children remained a part of her life, sharing milestones like birthdays, graduations, weddings, and introducing her to their growing families. Jocelyn was a cherished member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church and enjoyed a variety of activities, including reading, going out to the movies, swimming, traveling, and attending social events. Her love for Chip and Dale in Disney World and the sound of the waves at the beach was particularly special.
Jocelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her son George Paul Armas, and her brother Stephen Gerard. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Marie Deaton (Ronnie) and Paula Louise Self (Frederick); her grandchildren, Brandon Paul Deaton (Eva), Erika Angellé Hasselbeck (Tony), and Callon Jade Smith (Dustin); and her great-grandchildren, Ethan Joseph, Braydon Paul, Noah Grant, Isabelle Marie, Aria Jane, and Sawyer Jade. Additionally, Jocelyn’s legacy lives on through the 250+ children whose lives she touched during her 45 years of caregiving.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her caregiver, Blair Hayes, and Pinnacle Home Health, Palliative Care and Hospice for their compassionate care.
