JoAnn Smith Lemoine, 83, a resident of Baton Rouge, peacefully passed away at her residence on Sunday March 27, 2022. She was born and raised in Cottonport, Louisiana the sixth child of her parents Valley and Victoria Bowman. She graduated from Cottonport High School and attended Cottonport Trade School majoring in Business. On April 19, 1958, she married Robert Kirby Smith from Mansura, Louisiana (deceased) and they made their home in Baton Rouge. She worked for Acme Brick as a secretary and then worked 27 years for Eckerd Drugs as a certified pharmacy technician. On April 25, 1998, she married James Lemoine (deceased) from Moreauville and they made their home in Denham Springs.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, JoAnn lived a very active life and will be remembered for her generosity, caring ways and faith. She loved gardening, making flower arrangements, square dancing, and cooking for her family and friends especially at Christmas making her Creole pralines and divinity. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed praying a daily rosary. Her Avoyelles Parish roots inspired her to entertain with gourmet meals all through the years at her family camp La Char De Ren Maison on Old River in Marksville. JoAnn, who loved and cared for her family, is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Charlene Smith Denoux (Kevin), Denise Smith West (Mark), and Renee Smith Auld (Phillip). Her four precious grandchildren James Edward Smith West (Magdelin), Haleigh Victoria Crook West Garrett (William), Ryan Paul Denoux (Danae) and Robert Gerard Denoux. Her adorable and treasured great-grandchildren Nicholas Santiago Medrano West and Edmund Clarence Paul Denoux. JoAnn loved to spend time with her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Valley Emile Bowman, St. and Victoria Bowman, her brother Valley Emile Bowman, Jr. and her sisters Murdis Bowman, Bernice Riche, Darnella Lena, and Wilma Capone. Also, spouses Robert Kirby Smith and James Lemoine. The pallbearers are Kevin Denoux, Mark West, Phillip Auld, James West, Ryan Denoux, and Robert Denoux.

Visitation will take place at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church at 9150 Highland Road in Baton Rouge on Monday, April 4th from 10:00 am until Mass at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery, 7808 St. George Way.
