On June 28, 2023, Joan Yvonne (Kubel) Flynn went to Heaven following a brief, fierce battle with cancer. She passed away in her Baton Rouge home surrounded by her family and her beloved, Mr. Marvin Bullion. Joan, who was affectionately known as Shorty, Joanie, and Munchkin, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 12, 1939. She later lived in Texas and Arizona before moving to New Orleans. She then made Baton Rouge her home and worked as a medical transcriptionist. Through much of her life, she enjoyed showing American Saddlebred horses, and she always enjoyed time in her garden. More recently, she developed a passion for square dancing, round dancing, and ballroom dancing with friends in local dance groups. She is fondly remembered by family and friends for her beautiful smile. Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Yvonne (Deveraux) Cannon, and her father, John Edward Kubel. She is survived by children, Sean M. Flynn, Heidi L. (Flynn) Barnett (husband Arden), and Rhys B. Flynn (wife Stephanie); grandchildren, Lauren Allen, Alayna Flynn, Hayden Allen, and Caralie Flynn; and sisters, Janice E. Tucker of Missouri and Sandra E. Perry of Texas. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to her extraordinary caregivers Tess and Rebecca. A private celebration of Joan’s life is forthcoming.
