Joan Bourgeois

Joan Jackson Bourgeois, 83, of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, passed away on 22 February 2024. She was born to parents Millard Jackson and Verlin Jackson, on 10/05/1940 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

She graduated from Central High School in 1958. Joan worked as a school bus driver. After 30 years of service, she retired from East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

She enjoyed cooking, travel, and various artistic endeavors. For years she travelled and fished with her favorite fishing buddy, her beloved husband Kenneth.

Joan met Kenneth M. Bourgeois, Sr. in 1959. They were married on December 14, 1960 in St. Amant, LA. Together they raised 5 children: Kenny Bourgeois (Karen), Tracie Greely (Paul), Suzanne Bourgeois, Margaret Kay Elgin (Jim), and Joanie Hawkins (Michael). In addition, Joan loved her bonus daughter, Janie Ryland.

Joan is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, including Jenni Juge, (Christopher, Audrey, Catherine, Wally), Michelle Cavalier (John), John David Badeaux (Katie, Noah, Parker, Luca, Ella), Brandon Bourgeois (Corey), Kristen Bourgeois (Justin, Zoeigh), Todd Bourgeois (Mallory, Margot), Logan Ballard (Amanda, Luke, Rylee), Ashton Cambre (Zach, Haylee, Hope, Layla), Emily Elgin (Blake Dugger, Susannah, Olive), Christopher Hawkins, Blane Hawkins, Kendall Hawkins, Chandler Richard, her siblings and many loved nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Kenneth M. Bourgeois, Sr.
 
The family has entrusted Resthaven with the arrangements. Visitation will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on February 27, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00, with Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00. A reception will follow at the church. Father Michael Moroney will officiate the ceremony.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
