A retired health occupation teacher and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 8:42 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008. She was 77 and a native of Sicily Island. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. David Bricker of Ingleside Methodist Church. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Heaton and husband Louis; son, Michael Thurman; two grandchildren, Michael Louis Heaton and Sarah Ann Thurman; and great-grandchild, Silas Elliot Gleason. Preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Girard Dinky Thurman; and parents, Earl and Bea Denham. She was a charter member of the Harrisburg chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma organization. She was an officer of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and member of the board of directors of the McMains Children's Developmental Center. She was a volunteer at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with eight years in critical care waiting.
