Jimmy Rae Lucius, of Baton Rouge, LA, went peacefully to his Heavenly Home on November 18, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Born on November 2, 1938, Jim was the son of his late parents, James Kelly and Ebbie McRae Lucius, of Leesville, Louisiana. Jim leaves his wife, Judy Sowell Lucius, of 52 years; his loving daughters, Aimee Lucius McPherson, Paige Lucius Colby (Alan), and Jill Lucius Miceli (Joe Albarado). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren who brought much happiness into his life, Alexis and Carrington McPherson; Caroline, Jacob, and Caitlin Colby; and Courtney and Aidan Miceli. Jim is survived by his two sisters, Hilda Garlington, Pasadena, TX and Marjorie (Richard) Sikes, Montgomery, TX. Jim was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Lucius, his sister Kala Lucius Johnson and his son-in-law John Raymond McPherson
Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a large zest for life. Jim celebrated life each day, and lived a full and happy life. Jim was known for his friendly smile, and never met a stranger. He was always prepared with a quick witted joke that was sure to brighten anyone’s day. He was also an avid LSU and Saints fan throughout the years.
Jim enjoyed spending his free time fishing and spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren. One of his other favorite hobbies was cooking for his family.
In his younger years, Jim served in the Navy beginning in 1956 until being honorably discharged in 1961.
After serving his country, Jim moved to Baton Rouge, LA where he raised his three daughters whom he loved dearly. When he wasn’t keeping track of his daughters, he worked for BASF for many years. After retirement, Jim worked on the security detail at Hollywood Casino.
The family would like to recognize Heritage Manor Nursing Home and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. During his many visits to both facilities, the staff members were extremely caring and loving to our dear Jim. This exceptional level of care made this difficult time so much easier for us. We are so grateful for all of his care keepers at these facilities.
