Jessie Leroy Erwin, Sr., 81 of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on Wednesday, June 15th, 2016, at 3:54 am surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 25th, 1935, in Baskin, LA, and retired as a Mechanic and Shop Forman after 50 years of service at Duplessis Cadillac of Baton Rouge. He was the first man to rebuild transmissions in Baton Rouge in the 50's. He enjoyed sitting on his porch and working in his garden. He also enjoyed raising goats in his backyard.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janie Jeanette Floyd Erwin; one son, Jessie Leroy Erwin, Jr. and wife, Kathy; one sister, Margaret Britt; four grandchildren, Jessica Stelly, Duston Erwin, Kayla Hebert (Blaine), Andrew (Andy) Erwin (Dara); and five great-grandchildren, Emily, Benjamin, Samantha, Blaise, and Bryler. He was also a "paw-paw" to his "peanut" Zachary Townley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lugene (Bugs) Miller and stepfather, Nelson (Red) Miller, and father, Boliver Rougon Erwin; his son, Gergory Lamar Erwin; and his brothers, Robert (Bob) Erwin, Billy Erwin, and Richard Erwin.
Honorary pallbearer will be Milton Bourque. Laying him to rest include, Duston Erwin, Andy Erwin, Blaine Hebert, Zachary Townley, Michael Walker, Timothy Erwin, Chad Mecants and Bradley Ashmore.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 18th, 2016, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. at 12:30 PM. Visitation will be held on June 18th, 2016, beginning at 10:30 AM until the time of services.
The family of Jessie would like to thank the staff of Feliciana Home Health & St. Joseph Hospice for the care they provided. Thanks to all of our friends in Gonzales and Baton Rouge for their love and prayers during this time.
