Jessie Bourgoyne passed away at 2:23 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at St. Joseph Carpenter House after an extended battle with cancer. She was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, born Dec. 27, 1937. A 1955 graduate of Istrouma High School, she attended LSU. She was employed for many years at LSU and served as secretary to the dean of the Department of Continuing Education. From LSU, she worked for Gov. Mike Foster's transition team and retired as his scheduling secretary. She was an active member of the River Region Art Association and the local Art Guild. She was known for her breath-taking watercolor paintings. An avid gardener, she was named a master gardener in 2005 and helped maintain the plants at the Burden Center at the Rural Life Museum. Her backyard is a certified wildlife habitat. The oldest of seven children, she was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur C. Andrews and Gladys Roshto Andrews Ruiz and her beloved daughter, Lisa Gayle Childress. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, John Cecil Bourgoyne, Sr. and their children Andrew Clifton Shrader, III and wife Cheryl, John Bourgoyne, Jr. and wife Tammy, Francis Shrader Guerin and husband Andre, Erin Shrader Allain and husband Al and Sharon Bourgoyne Stanford and husband Lance. She is also survived by a brother Arthur Howell Andrews and wife Elaine and five sisters, Marilyn Jones and husband Ray Lloyd, Carolyn Jones and husband Don, Sara Boulos and husband Riad, Julia Nelson and husband Patrick and Mary Andrews. Jessie was a beloved Nana to 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home Friday, August 14, 2009 from 9 am until services at 11 am conducted by the Reverend Robert Lee of Poplarville, Mississippi. Internment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens
