Jerry Earman Smith, age 78, of Baton Rouge, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 from complications of Parkinson's disease.
Jerry was born in Washington Parish, on September 7, 1938. He was a 1956 graduate of Istrouma High School. He retired from The Advocate in 2001 with 41 years of service. In addition, he also delivered The Advocate to hundreds of Baton Rouge customers every day for over 30 years.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Izelle Smith; two children, Donna Firmin and fiancé, Buddy Lee, and Chandra Alford and husband, Greg; three step-children, Susan Vilas and husband, James, Bobby Denson and wife, Becky, and Renee Piper and husband, JP; eleven grandchildren, Shane and Todd Firmin, Tyler, Peyton and Taylor Alford, Ashley Anderson and husband, Ty, Miguel Vilas, Samantha and Brad Denson, and Hayden and Riley Piper; three great grandchildren, Addison, Hayes and Caroline Anderson; two brothers, Charles Smith and wife, Judy, and Tommy Smith and wife, Barbara; two sisters, Zandra Zenner and husband, Jim and Linda Maples; and one sister-in-law, Dottie Smith.
Preceded in death by parents, Earman Smith and Alice Smith, and two brothers, Perry Smith and Larry Smith.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 10 a.m. until memorial service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Jerry's name to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
