Jerry Scott

September 27, 1945 — August 19, 2009

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:6-7. Jerry Glenn Scott was born Sept. 27, 1945. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at age 63 after an unrelenting fight with cancer where he never yielded in determination or weakness in vigor. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and a true believer in Our Heavenly Father. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Central where he received the position of assistant pastor after receiving his minister's license in 2006. He had a true passion for music and a gift for playing the piano and organ. As a musician he played music with a variety of bands in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas starting in the early 1960s and throughout the 1970s. He played keyboard and sang backup vocals on such records as Got You on My Mind and Benanitta's, a song written for the Port Vincent, Amite River area. His music career and talent found its way to the church where his organ playing commanded attention and uplifted souls. He was a self-employed Baton Rouge businessman for 25 years. He loved Louisiana, Our Food Cajun cooking, LSU football and baseball, playing golf and spending time with his family. He was survived by his wife of 44 years, Martha Nell Scott; son, Randall Scott and wife Chastity, of Prairieville; daughter, Brandi Scott Knott and husband Michael, of Arnaudville; son, Ryan Scott and wife Shela, of Denham Springs; six grandchildren, Matthew Scott, Breanne Watts, Peyton Scott, Bailey Maulard, Victoria Knott and Peyton Maulard; and seven siblings, Evelyn Moran, Norma Buxton, Joseph Scott, Gene Scott, Rosemary Guidry, Carroll Ken Scott and Gracie Haggard. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph Clarence Scott; mother, Mathilde Ann Acaldo Scott; and sister, Sharon Peck. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until celebration into Heaven by Melvin Sterling, pastor, at 11 a.m. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
