Jerry "Papa"

Jerry Thomas Lowe ("PaPa"), beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Baton Rouge, LA on Sunday, August 7, 2016. Jerry was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma cancer in 2015, but remained positive and steadfast in his faith throughout his battle with the disease. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Suzette Chauvin Lowe; their three children, Bradley Lowe of Baton Rouge, LA and wife Peggy, Courtney Ydarraga of Hoover, AL and husband Kevin, and Natalie DeLisa of Dallas, TX and husband Michael; and seven grandchildren (Cameron Ydarraga, William Ydarraga, Thomas Lowe, Tate Lowe, Parker DeLisa, Collier Lowe and Winston DeLisa). Jerry is also survived by his four siblings, Terry (Gail) Lowe of Baton Rouge, LA; Gregory (Cindy) Lowe of Port Allen, LA; Ginger (Bo) Altazan of Baton Rouge, LA and Jill (David) Saale of Port Allen, LA; and sisters-in-law, Linda (Steve) Hicks of Baton Rouge, LA and Johnnie Belle Flynn of Baton Rouge, LA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Goldie Lowe and beloved grandson, Henry Lowe.

Jerry was born on July 17, 1947 in Plaquemine, LA and graduated from Port Allen High School in 1966. He received a Bachelor's in Education from Louisiana State University in 1971 followed by a Master's Plus 30 in Education in 1981. Jerry proudly served as an Airman in the U.S. Air Force as well as a Petty Officer Third Class in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He spent his entire professional career of 34 years working for the West Baton Rouge Parish Schools in many different capacities, including several years as a teacher and coach at Devall Middle School and Port Allen High School; 16 years as Principal at Brusly Middle School; and his final years as a member of the School Board where he served as the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance as well as Acting Superintendent upon his retirement in 2005.

Following retirement, Jerry focused his time and efforts on his life passions, including golf, dove hunting and gardening, but especially spending time with his beloved grandsons. He enjoyed working as a marshal at the LSU Golf Course, volunteering at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital as a Eucharistic Minister and travelling the world with his wife. Jerry was a talented man in many capacities from building fences to manicuring his lawn and always made time to help a family member or friend, especially his good neighbor Gladys Brown. Jerry was a parishioner at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. Interment will immediately follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, 4950 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 or St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.
