Jerry D. Montgomery, age 77, who was born in McComb, MS, grew up in Hattiesburg, MS, and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on May 6, 2015 surrounded by his family.
Jerry enlisted in the US Army in the "Buddy Platoon" and was honorably discharged in 1963 after serving with the 412th Engineering Battalion, Vicksburg, MS. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a member of KA fraternity. Jerry started his 40 years in the Water Works industry with Johns Manville in the Pipe Division in 1967, as a water & sewer pipe specialist covering the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. He started his own company, J. Montgomery Sales, in 1982 selling and promoting a wide range of water and sewer products in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and West Tennessee. In 2005 Jerry went to work for PWEagle PVC Pipe Company until he retired in August of 2007. He was a 30 year member of American Water Works Association, a member of Bocage Racquet Club for over 30 years and was a seaplane pilot for 6 years, flying out of Westwego Seaplane base. As a pilot for Visco Chemical & Aquaness Chemical, Jerry was a pilot, chemist, and salesman. He enjoyed water skiing, wood working, fishing, and vacationing with his family.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Claire Montgomery; one daughter, Elizabeth Montgomery Skiles and her husband Joe; two sons, Michael Scott Montgomery and his wife Kim, and Mark Andrew Montgomery and his wife Lucy; seven grandchildren, Andrew Joseph Montgomery and wife Paige, Candace Marie Montgomery, Stephanie Lynn Montgomery, Justine Marie Montgomery, Jake Andrew Montgomery, Katherine Elizabeth Skiles, and James Dawson Skiles; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Rena Mae Dawson Montgomery; and his brother, Billy Hugh Montgomery.
The family request visiting hours to be observed from 9:30 am until his memorial service beginning at 11:00 am at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 17510 Monitor Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70817, on Saturday, June 20, 2015.
