Jeffrey David Montgomery passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and his beloved dogs, Mickey and Milo. He was 70 years old. Jeff was born November 4, 1953, in Hammond, Louisiana to Jack Montgomery and Claire Ruth Hyde Montgomery.
A 1971 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Jeff went on to attend Louisiana State University where he received two bachelor's degrees, one in Microbiology and then in Computer Science. The latter provided him with the foundation of an almost 40-year career with the State of Louisiana Public Safety Department as their computer programmer/analyst.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Jeff is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Mary Kay Fields Montgomery; their sons, David Montgomery and wife Kristen and Brian Montgomery and wife Brittany; and grandchildren Sophie Montgomery and Michael Montgomery. He is also survived by his wife’s siblings: Marcie Yeager, Paul Fields and wife Joni, Patti Paulino and husband Jim, Beth King and husband Steve, Jeanne Tribou and husband Arthur and Suzanne Talbot and husband Bart; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.
Jeff enjoyed LSU football, trips to the beach and was the family ‘grill master’ – having cooked most of the meals he and Mary Kay ate. His uncanny ability to know any artist or song will be one of our many fond memories we have. But above all of this, Jeff loved to golf, there wasn’t a weekend his sons could remember that didn’t include a round. After retirement he was able to enjoy even more golf during the week, usually played with his golfing buddies including Mitch Wall, Mike Crouch, Jim Nipper, Paul Leinweber, Bill Lovell and Allen Darden, who will be honoring Jeff as pallbearers at his service.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Avenue in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. A Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
For those so desiring and in lieu of flowers, memorials in honor Jeffrey David Montgomery may be made to The Hospice of Baton Rouge (Donate | Hospice (hospicebr.org), who provided him with such care and compassion in his and the family’s time of need.
