Jeannine Sanders

September 21, 1931 — November 10, 2020

Jeannine Sanders, 89 of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 10, 2020 in the early morning hours with two of her four daughters sleeping peacefully nearby.  She was a true southern belle who had an amazing capacity to love and care for others whether they were part of her family, extended family or close friends.  She was born in Mississippi in the 30’s during the depression and was lucky to have grown up in a southern family that included many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jeannine is survived by her four daughters - Monica (Walmsley) Degeyter (Roland), Shery Christopher (Will Clipman), Lisa (LaBauve) Callegan (Steffan) and Wendy LeBlanc (Roger Redeford); her brother Gerald Sanders (Shirley), her sister Linda Sanders; her grandchildren - Joseph LaBauve (Lauren), Brandon Walmsley (Michelle Bishop), Rustin Walmsley (Abbie), Kristi LaBauve (widow to Jacob Labauve), Kiya LeBlanc Redeford and Abrielle LeBlanc Redeford and her great grandchildren – Gabrielle LaBauve, Avery LaBauve, Jett LaBauve, Jack LaBauve,  Noah Walmsley, George LaBauve and Nathan Walmsley and her step-grandchildren Celia Bishop and Spencer Bishop, and Dustin Callegan (Kayla) and Hailey (Callegan) Griffin (Nolan)

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Sanders and Irwin Sanders, her parents Alton and Annie Bell Sanders and her grandson, Jacob LaBauve.

Jeannine graduated from high school in 1949 and moved to New Orleans where she went to secretary school before taking on work as an office assistant.  Over the years she worked for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety before moving to Colorado to be closer to her daughters. In Colorado, she worked for US West phone company until her retirement in 1996 at which time she moved back to Louisiana where the majority of her family was located.

Jeannine loved watching Hallmark movies and reading romance and time travel novels and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

With so many who loved her, we want to mention her sister-in-laws Carolyn Sanders and Jennifer Jackson, nieces and nephews: Deborah Martin (Carl), Bill Wick (Jackie), Christian Sanders (Michele), David Sanders, Michelle Barrett, Michael Sanders, Dawn Gallino (Gui), Desiree Arm (Brian) Lisa Savino (Greg), great nieces and nephews: Anthony, Lucas, Megan, Brooke, Taylor, Sidney, Loren, Hudson, Tori, Elle, Lowyn, Dominic and numerous others.

In life, she was fierce as a mother protecting and caring for her girls and loved by so very many who knew her; in death, she will be keenly missed by all of us.

As a family, we will be having a Celebration of Life at her daughters’ (Lisa Callegan) home in Baton Rouge on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite cancer or heart care foundation.
