Jeanette Thomas

Jeanette Jan Thomas, a resident of Baton Rouge, La. since 2010 passed away with her loving family by her side at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 after going into cardiac arrest on Sunday March 25, 2012. She was a native of BelleCenter, Ohio, but resided in Pensacola, Florida from 1980 until 2010 when she moved to Lake Sherwood Village in Baton Rouge. She is survived by her son and daughterinlaw Jeff and Chandra Thomas of Baton Rouge, grandson Justin Thomas of Baton Rouge, a brother and sisterinlaw Donald Jr. and Sandra McMillen of BelleCenter, Ohio, lifelong friends Norma McMillen and Margaret Nabors, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceeded in death by her parents Donald Sr. and Mary Francis McMillen of BelleCenter, Ohio. Jan was employed as a bookkeeper and salesperson in the retail furniture business by Charles Tanger and family, first in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and later in Pensacola, Florida, from the late 60s until she retired in 2000. She enjoyed working for Chuckie, Betty and Gary Tanger and they always treated her like family. She also had many friends in Pensacola and loved living there. Following her retirement she worked parttime as a receptionist at Azalea Trace Retirement Community and also was a volunteer at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola. Jan was an avid reader, shopper, and decorator. She also loved to travel and was able to visit many beautiful and interesting places during her life. A private visitation for the family was held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Burial will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory on Tuesday, April 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Please visit www.resthavenbatonrouge.com to leave condolences to the family. The family also expresses their appreciation to Lake Sherwood Village Retirement Community staff and residents for making Jan part of their community.
