Jeanette Melancon

Jeanette M. Melancon, age 86, passed away on, January 12, 2017. She was a native of Jeanerette, LA, and a 50 year resident of Baton Rouge, LA.

Jeanette graduated from St. Joseph High School in Jeanerette, LA. She later graduated from Mercy Hospital with classes at Loyola University, Class of 1951, with a registered nursing degree. She worked at Charity Hospital in Lafayette for several years until she married in 1955 to James Melancon. Jeanette was an active member of St. Jude Church. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters, DMA, the Altar Society, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and was a regular volunteer at St. Agnes Missionaries of Charity "Soup Kitchen".

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Larkin, and husband Ken of Dallas, TX; Gina Maciasz, and husband Emil Joseph (Sonny) of Baton Rouge, LA; son, Kenneth Melancon, and wife Kaye of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren; Jason Larkin, and wife Sara, Eric Larkin, Emil Joseph (Joey) and Alex Maciasz, Alison and Paige Melancon; and great-grandchildren; Hannah and Wesley Larkin.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband, James Melancon; her parents, Dumas Landry and May Simoneaux; her brothers, Sheldon Landry, Gerald Landry, and Jerry Landry; and her sister, Lloyd Sapienza.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm. Visitation will resume on Monday, January 16, 2017 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Rd, Baton Rouge, LA from 10:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Agnes Missionaries of Charity, 715 East Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
