Jean Mitchell Waddle, age 88, a resident of East Baton Rouge/Livingston parishes, went home to Jesus on January 24, 2018 after eight years at the St. Clare's Nursing Facility.
Prior to her time at St. Clare's, she loved spending time with her family. Jean was an avid camper (we can't remember a time when the family wasn't going somewhere during school vacations), a great chess player, a rockhound (often striking out in the outback of Australia to look for gems) and a devoted book reader. She loved animals (she seemed to always have a dog but loved animals of all kinds), golfing, fishing and shrimping in Dulac and other areas around Louisiana, traveling the globe (living for a time in Australia and Jamaica) and exploring the outdoors worldwide. She was always looking for ways to spend time with her grandchildren, including learning about computers, teaching herself and them machine language and having the latest gizmo so she could play games with them. When she wasn't spending time with her family, she enjoyed fellowship with friends in her Sunday School group along with others at Florida Boulevard Baptist Church where she was a member for forty years. That was Jean - a loving, Christian woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She cherished her family and friends as they cherished her, and she will be greatly missed.
Jean is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Hugh Waddle of Watson, LA and her devoted brother, Wayne "Mitch" Mitchell of Baton Rouge, LA as well as her four adoring daughters, Patsy Seguin and her husband Butch of Baton Rouge, LA/Fort Lauderdale, FL, Carolyn Gurley of Watson, LA, Norma Church and her husband Don of Chattanooga, TN, and Sandra Wells of Gautier, MS, cherished grandchildren Trevor Seguin and his wife Marlona of Chattanooga, TN, Alicia Wells and Kimberly Shelton of Gautier, MS, granddaughter-in-law Nancy Seguin of Boca Raton, FL, seven amazing great-grandchildren that she loved dearly, Adrian and Abigail Seguin of Chattanooga, TN, Jordan and Riley Shelton of Gautier, MS and Delaney, Donovan, and Pierce Seguin of Boca Raton, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ina Mitchell of Pride, LA, her brothers Norman Dale Mitchell of Pride, LA and James Mitchell of Baton Rouge, LA, her grandson Dr. Troy Seguin of Boca Raton, FL, a great-grandchild Alexander Seguin of Baton Rouge, LA, as well as numerous other family friends and extended family members.
Please join our family in celebration of her life at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home at 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be Monday, January 29, 2018 at 1 pm, the service will be at 2 pm, and the burial at 3 pm.
Pallbearers will be her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.
