Jean Turnley

August 26, 1932 — January 6, 2021

Jean Bellard Turnley, known to most as “Nanny” was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nanny’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She was truly a devoted, hands-on grandmother. For as long as she was able to, Nanny never missed an event; whether it be a baseball game, swim meet, soccer match, dance recital or cheer competition. She wholeheartedly enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their individual endeavors. As Nanny was devout in her faith, her family has peace and comfort in knowing that she is resting in the arms of our Lord.

Born August 26th, 1932 to Maurice Bellard and Aline Olivier Bellard in Church Point, Louisiana. Nanny was the second oldest of 14 children. She returned home to be with our savior on January 6th, 2021. Nanny was greeted at the gates of heaven by her husband of 49 years, James Russell Turnley, Sr., her parents, Maurice and Aline, her sister, Wanda Bellard Guilbeau along with her brother-in-law John “J.E.” Guilbeau, and her stillborn younger brother. Nanny is survived by her children, daughter, Claire Turnley Stewart; her children, Treshur Jones (Ben), Trisha, Denny, and Tristan. Son, Jimmy Turnley (Melanie Hines); their children, Chanler and Jett. Son, Chad Turnley; his sons Brody and Brock. Great-grandchildren, Kenadie, Karsyn, Kamden, and Kolyns. Nanny is also survived by 11 of her siblings. As she carried her sons into this world; her sons along with her grandsons and great-grandson will carry Nanny to her new eternal home.

On Monday, January 11th, an outdoor service will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70816. The visitation will be held under the pavilion entering the mausoleum at 11:00am. Following with a graveside service officiated by Fr. Philip Spano of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 12:00pm. We invite everyone to keep Nanny’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. Due to Covid-19, a greater celebration of Nanny’s life and the love her family has for her will be held when it is safe for friends and family to gather to rejoice in her eternal life.
