Wilma Jean Petrie was born on February 16, 1934, in Farmersville, TX to Walter Burt Wisdom and Bessie Jones Wisdom. She was a resident of Baton Rouge, La. She passed away peacefully in her home on September 19, 2018 at the age of 84. She was one of nine children and is the last surviving sibling.
At a young age, Jean married and had two children, Bradley and Brett Petrie. They made their home in Metairie, La for many years. Later, she started working at South Central Bell Telephone Company, now called AT&T, where she became a Supervisor and had a lot of responsibility. She retired around 1984. Jean eventually relocated to Baton Rouge, La in 2006, after Hurricane Katrina. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading books, playing cards with her friends, and spending time with her family. When her children left home, she volunteered much of her time at the East Jefferson Hospital in New Orleans, La and the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. Jean was a very generous person, and made monetary donations to several well-known charities. She was also a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church on Jones Creek Road, where she made many wonderful friends.
Jean was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her surviving family—her son, Bradley Joseph Petrie and wife, Cheryl T. Petrie; her granddaughter, Brittany Elizabeth Petrie; her great granddaughter, Meredith Ashley Montet; her niece, Phyllis Ponthier Newman and husband, Jerry, and their children, Lane and Erin; and several other nieces and nephews, as well as a host of many, many wonderful friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bessie Wisdom; her husband, Louis Joseph Petrie (Dutch); her son, Brett James Petrie; her brothers, Willie B. Wisdom, John D. Wisdom, Jesse R. Wisdom, Clarence Wisdom, Walter Wisdom Jr, James B. Wisdom; her sisters, Shirley (Ann) Wisdom and Patsy Wisdom Ponthier.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care of Miss Petrie and making sure that all of her wishes were met in the final days of her life. We would also like to thank all of her loving friends who came to visit her daily and those who called with their words of comfort.
