Jean Ober

March 16, 1917 — August 15, 2008

Jean Cecilia Ober, was born March 16, 1917, and went to see her Savior on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, from the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. She was 91 and a resident of Galveston until 2000, when she moved near her son in Baton Rouge. She spent her last years at the Lake Sherwood Village Retirement Center until a sudden illness took her to the Almighty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Wilhelmina Shocke Sabatier; sister, Elizabeth Tinney; and brother, Charles Sabatier. Jean was married for 50 years to the late George Ober. Jean is survived by her son, Richard Ober and wife Marilyn, of Baton Rouge; and two stepsons, George Jr. and Edward Ober, both of Houston. She also leaves a grandson, Richard Ober Jr., of Baton Rouge; a granddaughter, Wendy Lurvey and husband Daniel, of Lake Jackson, Texas; and two great-grandsons, Joshua and Benjamin Lurvey. In addition, Jean leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. A religious service for Jean will be held in Galveston, Texas, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Baton Rouge or the American Cancer Society.
