Jan was called home on January 12, 2025, at the age of 64. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jan was a graduate of Woodlawn High School, Class of 1978, where she found joy playing in the marching band. For 22 years, she worked at The Home Depot, where she spent countless hours "humping the concrete" and "putting out fires in the big orange box."
Jan had a deep love for the outdoors. Fishing was one of her greatest joys, especially when it involved "drowning a worm." Her heart found peace in Grand Isle, whether she was crabbing on the beach or in Maurepas out in the swamp frogging and catching turtles. She also had a special bond with her plants, lovingly calling them “her babies,” as her green thumb worked wonders. Jan found joy in simple things like putting puzzles together with her children and grandchildren, which she thought was “cool beans.” Always ready to dance, she had a natural rhythm and was never shy to "cut a rug."
Her taste in music was as warm and welcoming as her heart, she adored the sounds of James Taylor, the Eagles, and Dolly Parton. Her favorite song was "Brown Eyed Girl." Jan had a soft spot for sunsets and cloud gazing, but what truly made her happy was filling the bellies of her loved ones with a delicious home-cooked meal.
Above all, Jan was known for her boundless kindness. She never judged others and would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She believed no one should ever go hungry and would always lend a hand to those who needed it. Her faith in the Lord was unwavering, and even in the toughest of times, she would remind others, "The Lord is never late, never early, but always right on time."
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Roberts, Jr. and Gwendolyn Harris Roberts, as well as her grandparents, Louis Brannon (Mary Alice Johnson) Harris and Joseph Sr. (Mary Joy Barbay) Roberts.
She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Bujeaux; her children, Kindra (Dave) Reiman, Jamie Lynn (Daniel) Moore, and Justin Clyde Smith; her grandchildren, Daniel (Tirzah) Kosick, Gabrielle McDonnell, Olivia McDonnell, and Bailey Dennis; and her great-grandchildren, Sage Kosick, Calea Kosick, and Pax Kosick. She also leaves behind her siblings, David (Lisa) Roberts, Claire (Troy) Donaldson, and Richard (Melinda) Roberts, as well as her uncles, Charles ‘Charlie’ Harris and Roger ‘Rocky’ Harris.
Jan’s love, laughter, and light will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
