When we have done all the work we were sent to do, we are allowed to shed our bodies, which imprison our soul like a cocoon encloses the butterfly and when the time is right, we can let go of it. Janet Lea Shelton Reed, beloved and devoted wife, stepmother, daughter, sister and aunt, passed away on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with illness. She was born in Ironton, Ohio, on Oct. 19, 1960. Janet is survived by her husband, Robert Reed; stepchildren, Shane and Melissa Reed; mother, Rita Shelton; siblings, Beverly and Jim Rogers, John and Terran Shelton, Joyce and Jimmy Demouy, Sue Edwards, Diane and Phil Douglas, and Scott Shelton; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Barry and Ann Reed, Kelly and Margaret Reed, and Bill Reed. Janet is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Janet was preceded in death by her father, John Alexander Shelton; sister, Vicki Shelton; and grandparents, William and Lena Murnahan and A.J. and Margaret Shelton. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 26, from 8:30 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m., conducted by pastors Jason Laird and Pete Wunstel. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be John Shelton, Scott Shelton, Jim Rogers, Jimmy Demouy, Barry Reed and Kelly Reed. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Reed and Shane Reed. Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
