Jane Anderson Conrad was born on March 15, 1922, in Shickshinny, Pa., and died Monday, July 28, 2008, at her residence at Williamsburg Senior Living Community. After graduating from high school, she went to nursing school in Orange, N.J., and then joined the U.S. Navy as a member of the Nurses' Corps. While stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, she met her husband, Rex Elliot Conrad. The family moved to Baton Rouge in 1951 and she became a full time homemaker and devoted volunteer. She was a charter member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for more than 40 years, was active in the Women of the Church, played the piano at nursing homes and gave of her time and talents in many different capacities. Over the years, she also worked as a Pink Lady at Women's Hospital, delivered Meals on Wheels and belonged to P.E.O. International. Jane will be remembered as a kind, gracious and generous Christian woman who loved God, her family and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Rex Elliot Conrad; and parents, Russell and Edith Anderson. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Conrad and Susan D'Agostino and her husband, Charlie; four granddaughters and their husbands, Ashley and Bob Ray, Kristi and Chad Burlingame, Sarah and Blake Leggett and Carlee and Wes Kuenstler; and four great-granddaughters, Olivia, Camille and Eliza Ray and Annie Burlingame. Jane's family is grateful to the staff of Williamsburg Senior Living Community and the Hospice of Baton Rouge for their excellent care. Additionally, love and special appreciation is given to her devoted caregivers, Kay Risley and Connie Queen, who have become family members. They have unselfishly given so much of themselves which allowed Jane to remain in a loving home environment during her last years. Visitation at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, July 30, from 1 p.m. until memorial service at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Hawley Wolfe.
