A retired pipefitter with Ormet Corp. and a resident of Maurepas, he died at 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at East Jefferson General Hospital, Metairie. He was 83, a native of French Settlement and U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Oct. 6, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with Masonic service at 7 p.m., and Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Leon Carpenter. Entombment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Survived by two daughters, Linda Gonzales and husband Randy and Joyce Brignac; son, Terence Trainer; four grandchildren, Jeremy Gonzales, Brandi Gonzales, James Brignac and Jeff Brignac; and five great-grandchildren, DeAnne Heitman, Tristian Gonzales, Devin Harris, Bradleigh Brignac and Mark Emerson. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Trainer; parents, Fred Trainer and Lola Weatherly; sister, Geraldine Bryant; and brother, Joseph J.D. Donovan. He was a member of American Legion Post 198, Hurd Merrill Lodge 454, FAM, Acacia Shriner, Livingston Parish Council on Aging Advisory Committee and Plumbers Steamfitters Local 198. He also served as a lobbyist for the AARP.
