James Theriot

October 24, 1932 — July 18, 2013

A resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 9:58 am. He was 80 years old and a native of Port Allen. Visitation at St. Jude Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Rd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, July, 22, 2013 from 9:30 am until mass of Christian burial at 11:30 am. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA. His love and faith never wavered in complete acceptance of Gods will. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Korea, and served aboard a Destroyer Escort from 195155. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and active in church ministries, the Knights of Columbus Council 9692, and a volunteer at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved life and never tired of trying all that he could experience, including photography, writing, fishing, hiking the Appalachian Trail and running the Boston Marathon. He attended LSU and was a partner in the Engineering firm of Brown Butler, Inc. from 1983 until his retirement in 1998. He was past State President of the LA Land Surveyors Association, and past member of American Society of Military Engineers, Consulting Engineers Council, lifetime member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors, and lifetime member of the American Council of Surveying and Mapping. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Verna Paille Theriot one daughter, Cheryl Theriot Moore and husband, James Randolph Moore a sister, Joyce Theriot soninlaw, J.D. Samson five grandchildren, Caitlin Cynthia Moore, Austin Moore, Taylor Moore, Adam Samson, and Nicole Samson Snelling and husband, Jeremy Snelling two greatgrandchildren, Tayler and Jackson Snelling sisterinlaw, Dr. Billie Theriot and two brotherinlaws, Edward Paille and Jack Paille. Preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Theriot Samson parents, Harvey A. Theriot, Sr. and Verna Caffarel Theriot and a brother, Harvey Theriot, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Building Fund, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, or a charity of your choice.
