James “Jim” Simmons, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at his home in Baton Rouge at the age of 89, with his wife of 69 years by his side. He was born to Lillie and Shelton Simmons on November 6, 1931.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 27, 1951, and served four years including the Korean War. He married his childhood neighbor and best friend Shirley “June” Simmons on December 27, 1951. They had three beautiful children together, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He retired from Dow Chemical and was one of the first employees to open the plant. He loved the outdoors, was a devoted Christian, and was the most kind gentle man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met through his generosity and compassion.
He is survived by his devoted wife, June Simmons; son, Mark Simmons; daughter, Laura Simmons Guillory and son-in-law Randall Guillory; grandchild, Randall (Keith) Guillory and wife Claire Guillory, great grandchild Cameron Guillory; grandchild, Brandi Patteson and husband Richard Patteson, great grandchildren Olivia and Brady Patteson.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lillie and Shelton Simmons, brothers Lamar, Gene and Shelton Simmons and his son James Lee Simmons.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, on Tuesday June 15th, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
