James M. Post

James M. Post passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the age of 76, after a brief but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was born April 14, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to James Montgomery Post and Hazel Oriel Post.  He served our country in the United States Navy, where he was able to travel the world.  He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1973, receiving his bachelor's degree in accounting. After years of dedication to his career, having worked for companies including Jacobs Engineering and GSRI, Jim retired in 2010.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nancy Carey and Jane Decker.  Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Amelie Acosta Post; their daughter Alison (Eric) Richardson of Baton Rouge; their son James W. (Janice Crosby) Post of Huntsville, AL; his beloved grandchildren Rhet Richardson and Jase Richardson; and his step-granddaughter Kether Crosby; sisters-in-law Ann Conaway, Fayne Knight, and Jeanne Acosta; brothers-in-law Paul Waguespack and Bobby Knight.

Jim had a vibrant personality that could fill a room.  Never one to be at a loss for words, he always had a story or a joke to share.  He had a passion for cars, from his 1957 Chevy to the Corvette that he gifted himself with for retirement, which was truly astonishing to those that know Jim since he believed in thrift!  Always a handyman, he enjoyed yardwork and undertaking various woodworking projects as well as assembling model cars and planes.  He was a huge fan of the beach and The Beach Boys and regularly vacationed at Orange Beach with his family.  When the hibiscus begins to bloom, we will always remember how every morning he would pluck a flower from his garden and bring it to Amelie.  The memories made, the stories shared and the love he gave we will forever hold dear to our hearts.     

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 2:30 p.m.  A Memorial Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Inurnment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
