James Norred, Sr.

James Rubin Norred Sr, a lifelong resident of Louisiana and the last 2 years a resident of San Antonio was born April 30, 1925 in Sikes, Louisiana. He graduated from Quitman High School and Louisiana Tech University.  He served in the Navy during WW II as a Seabee and saw action in the Pacific including  Pelalu. He was previously married to Shirley Warren Norred (deceased).

Jim was a long time resident of Baton Rouge where he worked for the State of Louisiana and retired from the Louisiana Department of Labor.  A member of Broadmoor Methodist Church, Jim was very active in the Lamplighter Sunday School Class for many years. He belonged to Fairfield Lodge # 445 where he was a past Worshipful Master. Loving to dance, Jim belonged to two ballroom and one square dance club and was also a member of the American Legion. An avid golfer, Jim enjoyed playing well into his nineties.

Jim is survived by his wife, Beatrice, his sons Bill and Karen Cool (wife), James Jr. and his daughter, Wendy, grandchildren: Abbie Norred Whitlock, Bandon McKenzie, Blane Guidry, Bonnie Guidry, Sonja Guidry, Robby Guidry, Elisa Cool, Christina Cool and great grandchildren: Ashley, Danielle, Jessica, Kristen, Camdyn, Cayle, Catalina, Charity, Cheyene, Taylor, Grant, Lane.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters. Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Thursday December 13th from 5 to 8 pm. Graveside service will follow on Saturday in Quitman, Louisiana.
