James “Jim” Murphy Manley completed his earthly journey early Sunday morning, April 27, 2025, at the age of 82, after a brief battle with cancer. His soul mate of over 19 years, Jeanne Wallace, was by his side.
Jim was born in New Albany, MS on October 26, 1942, to M. T. “Tifford” Manley and Jennie Sue Speck Manley. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1960, enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967. He then attended LSU, completing a Bachelor of Science in 1972 and a Master of Education in 1976. Jim spent over 30 years employed by East Baton Rouge Parish School System before retiring, with his last position serving as a Human Resources Supervisor. Jim is a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
Jim is survived by his companion of 19 years, Jeanne Wallace; grandson, Nicholas James Manley (Jeanne); sister-in-law, Sheila Wilie; nephew, Michael Gill; and several cousins. In addition to these survivors, Jim experienced very special friendships with a group of "guys" who were like a "band of brothers" - sharing extraordinary friendships of 50-60 plus years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 40 years, MaryAnn; two sons, Mark and Wesley; daughter, Laurie; and a sister, Susan Gill.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Graveside Service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. Services will be led by Bro. Wayne Austin.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Cooper, Bob Hedrick, Jeffrey Hedrick, Joel Hedrick, Ronnie Hedrick, Darral Istre, Tony Lightfoot, John Searles, Ed Storey.
Memorials can be made to Parkview Baptist Church or to Cancer Services of Baton Rouge. Special thanks for the exceptional care provided Jim in his last days by LifeSource Hospice - especially by our special team members Kerri, Johnnitha, Chaplain Linda, Shameka.
