James Melancon

June 28, 1933 — May 23, 2015

James Lee Melancon, a native of Lafayette, LA, and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Saturday, May, 23, 2015. He was 81 years old, born on June 28, 1933.

James graduated from Lafayette High School in 1951, then enlisted in the United States Navy. After a tour of duty in the Navy, he graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (ULL) in 1957 with a degree in Geology. James later retired from LA DOTD, after nearly 30 years of service as a Senior Research Geologist. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9692, St. Jude Alter Society, St. Jude DMA, and other groups at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. James was a weekly volunteer at St. Agnes Missionaries of Charity �½Soup Kitchen�½.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jeanette; daughters, Deborah Larkin, and husband Ken of Richardson, TX; Gina Maciasz, and husband Emil Joseph (Sonny) of Baton Rouge, LA; son, Kenneth Melancon, and wife Kaye of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren; Jason Larkin, and wife Sara, Eric Larkin, Emil Joseph (Joey), and Alex Maciasz, Alison and Paige Melancon; great-grandchildren; Hannah and Wesley Larkin; and sister, Margaret Atkins (Peggy) of Lafayette, LA.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Hugues and Blanche Champagne Melancon; brother, Roy Melancon; and sister, Eula Olivier.

The family requests that visitation hours be observed on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highways, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM by the Knights of Columbus.

A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 9150 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70810, from 1:00 PM until a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM, officiated by Father Trey Nelson.

Pallbearers will include Ken and Jason Larkin, Alex, Sonny, and Joey Maciasz.

Interment will take place at Greenoaks Memorial Park 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Agnes Missionaries of Charity, 715 East Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70802.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Fidelis for their efforts to comfort their father, along with their love and compassion.
