James Ernest Bud Means
born March 27, 1935 passed peacefully at his home on Monday October 13, 2014.
He is preceded in death by his parents Horace and Gladys Means his eldest son, James G. Means, and the mother of his four children, Evelyn Gail Pierce. He leaves behind his eldest child, Christine Means Brumfield and husband John his son, Larry E Means and wife Jessica and his youngest child, Vickie Means Thompson and husband Todd. He has 8 wonderful grandchildren Nicole Davis Young and husband Rex, James Aaron and Christina Means, Todd C and Tyler R Thompson, Ethan M Means, Maddie and Preston. He also leaves behind three siblings, Eunette Goff, Margaret Gibson and Horace Cookie Means along with many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
Bud served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Era conflict from 1952 through 1956. After returning home from the service he met and married Gail Pierce with which he raised a wonderful family. He started his career as an electrician attending night school while working two jobs to support his family. He joined the Electrician Union Hall in Baton Rouge, LA and soon was hired on by Nichols Construction. He worked his way up through the ranks to a Project Manager with Turner Industries and finally retired in 2006. He loved riding his Harley, playing golf and enjoyed being with is family. He always said never judge a man until you see how he treats others, speaks to others and works his craft. He also had a most famous saying while on the industrial construction site...No Chicken Heads Allowed A sticker was made just for his hard hat that read NO CHICKEN HEADS
Visitation will be observed at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 1:30 pm until service time. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm. Interment to follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
He was loved by all that met him. He was extremely charming, witty and handsome. Even during his illness and the last few years of his life he never met a stranger, lost his sense of humor or the ability to make someone feel comfortable and smile.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Area Alzheimersdementia Association, www.alzbr.org. He will be missed dearly by all that knew him and those that did know him were fortunate to have his love which never waived.
