A resident of Baton Rouge and native of St. Louis, Mo., he died Monday, April 9, 2012, at Hospice of Baton Rouge. He was 84 and a U.S. Navy veteran. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Thursday, April 12, from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Rocky Bezet. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by wife, Mary N. McFarland one daughter, Shelia Chenevert and husband David one son, Michael J. McFarland and wife Donna one aunt, Charlene six grandchildren, Brittany Coursey, Angela Desmond and husband Eric, Sandra Tassin, James McFarland and wife Susie, Jason McFarland and wife Heidi and Michelle Deville and husband Brian 12 greatgrandchildren and two greatgreatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, WJ and Mattie McFarland brother, Paul E. McFarland son, William E. McFarland and one stepson, Nelson Mayeux. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Istrouma Lodge 414, as a past Master he was very active in his church, Bethany and the Rock and community activities. Jim helped start and was an active member of the Brownsville Volunteer Fire Department. He played coronet in the LSU Band.
