A retired glazer and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. He was 83 and a native of White Castle. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the rank of corporal, having received medals and citations, including the Victory Medal. He is survived by his wife, Marian C. Leonard; three daughters, Patricia G. Leonard, Baton Rouge, Elizabeth L. Strickland, Canyon Lake, Texas, and Bonnie M. Leonard, Denham Springs; two sons, Philip J. Leonard and wife Abby, and Wayne M. Leonard and wife Christine, all of Central; sister, Rose Parker, White Castle; brother, Ulysses Landry, Houma; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Shaffer, Brett Leonard, Eric Leonard, Kaci Leonard, Philip Leonard, Savannah Ringe, Tami Ringe, Jacob Strickland, Jessica Strickland and Jackson Strickland; stepgrandson, Herbert Guhn III; and four great-grandchildren, Meghan, Briyden, Paige and Nadia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Inez Leonard; grandson, Brent Leonard; stepgrandson, Christopher Guhn; two half brothers, Carroll Landry and Mervin Landry; two stepbrothers, Herman Landry and Richard Landry; half sister, Rita Kass; and three stepsisters, Hilda Mae Lotz, Helen Dugas and Eunice Mura. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Feb. 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jack Nutter. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Jacob Strickland, Jackson Strickland, Brett Leonard, Philip Wayne Leonard, Eric Leonard and Bryan Carbo. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Cooper, Raymond Carbo and Gerald Carbo.
