James (Jim) Robert Kersh, of Baton Rouge, passed away on April 4, 2017.
Jim was born in Franklinton, LA to Robert and Verlie Kersh on June 9, 1938. He graduated from Forest Hill High School in Jackson, MS, and went on to attend Mississippi State University, graduating in 1960. After a brief service in the Army he worked in the chemical industry all over the south, settling in Baton Rouge in 1982. He had a lifelong love of music and played trombone in high school and college, and in numerous groups in Baton Rouge over the past 35 years. Jim was a dedicated husband and father, a lifelong fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and a faithful member of Istrouma Baptist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife Ellen Kersh; his daughter Kathy Sawchuk and son Gil Kersh and wife Ellen; and grandchildren Michael and Paige Sawchuk; and Lukas Philip, Lilly, and Mariann Kersh.
Visitation will be 1-3 pm on Saturday April 8th at Resthaven Funeral Home, with services following at Resthaven at 3 pm. Pastor Jeff Ginn of Istrouma Baptist Church will be officiating.
