James Gerard Chenevert passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the age of 75. He was born July 7, 1948, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Leroy P. Chenevert and Elsie Kaiser Chenevert. He was a graduate of Redemptorist High School and was inducted into the 1998 Redemptorist High School Hall of Fame. James then attended Louisiana State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. James enjoyed a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant.
James was a Man of Manresa and a devout Catholic. He served on many councils and boards regarding leadership and stewardship within in the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
He was a long-standing member of the Dining Guys of Baton Rouge and was an avid golfer who played courses across the United States. James was an accomplished businessman whose greatest pride and joy was his wife and family. He passed away after a 4-year courageous battle with cancer. His strength and courage served as an inspiration to his family and friends, and they will miss him greatly.
He is preceded in death by his parents. James is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathy Dugas Chenevert; his two sons, Troy James Chenevert and wife, Lisa and Scott David Chenevert, and wife, Katherine; his grandchildren, Lunden Chenevert Hotard and husband, Andre’, Troy James Chenevert, Jr. and wife, Emily, Truitt Jude Chenevert, Madeleine Marie Chenevert, Callie Rose Chenevert, and Annabelle Scott Chenevert; his great-grandchild, Jules Marie Hotard; his sisters, Sue Blanchard and husband, Irvin, and Margaret Franklin and husband, Brooks; and his brothers, Bobby Chenevert and Roy Chenevert and wife, Kellye.
The family invites friends and extended family to a Visitation on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until Mass begins at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, 7807 St. George Dr. Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jim Chenevert Tuition Assistance Fund at Redemptorist St. Gerard School, 3655 St. Gerard Ave. Baton Rouge, Louisiana, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
