It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our patriarch, James R. Beachum. He slipped away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the age of 90. A strong man with a kind heart, he never missed an opportunity to show how much he loved his family. He loved Sunday afternoon visits, working in his garden, and going fishing and frying the catch for everyone to enjoy. Born in Raymondville, Texas, on September 16, 1927, he moved around the country as part of a railroad family. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1947, he married the love of his life, the former Dorothy Longman. They settled in Baton Rouge in 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Ruby Cox Beachum and his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy. He is survived by his only child, James R. Beachum, Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Steven Beachum of Baton Rouge and Lisa Beachum of Greenwell Springs; and great grandchildren, Nathan, Kohen, and Sullivan; a brother, Rex Beachum of Denham Springs; and a sister, Betty Ann Beachum of Sante Fe, New Mexico, and her sons, David Montero and family of Monument, Colorado, and John Montero and family of Aldie, Virginia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018, followed by memorial service at 11:00 a.m. celebrated with Pastor Rocky Bezet. Internment immediately following in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. We have lost our guardian. Our champion. He will be missed always.
