Jacquelyn Hazey

September 1, 1967 — November 9, 2020

Jacquelyn Marie Hazey, a registered nurse and lover of rescue animals, left us peacefully on Monday, November 09, 2020 at the age of 53 (although, according to her, she was only 23).

Jackie is survived by her siblings: Colleen, Shirlee (husband, Mike), Rick (wife, Sue), and Bob, Jr. (wife, Nicole); her nieces and nephews: Kristin, Natalie, Michael, Zach, James, Ciara, Jacob, and Avery; her grand-nephew, Nicholas; her former husband, Steve; her former sister-in-law, Deborah; her beloved dogs: Lightning and Thunder; and many other family members and friends. In heaven, she will be joining her parents: Bob, Sr. and Jackie (for whom she was named), grandparents: George, Clara, Richard, and Irene; and her rescue animals: Joa, Abby, Wolfgang, and Gypsy.

Jackie was born in Lincoln Park, Michigan on September 01, 1967 and from that day forward, the world was a brighter place.  She lived all over the United States, most notably in Wyandotte and Riverview, Michigan; Columbus, Ohio; Los Angeles, California; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Jackie was a woman of many talents: she could sing, dance, and act; she helped others live a healthier life through her work as an aerobics instructor, massage therapist, and most recently as a registered nurse; she also spent many years in the restaurant industry as a server, bartender, line cook, and manager – there wasn’t a job Jackie couldn’t do – and do well.

Jackie was a devoted sister and aunt.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing with her dogs, exercising, cooking, and living life to the fullest.  She made a killer margarita and the best hummus this side of the Mediterranean. She wasn’t the life of the party – she was the party.  She could sing anything, but her favorites were songs by Stevie Nicks, Madonna, Cher, Janis Joplin, and Joni Mitchell – probably because, like them, she was a strong and independent woman whose personality could entertain a stadium full of people. She didn’t need a spotlight to know she was a star.

A visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home (11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816) on Tuesday, November 24th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with services to follow at St. Patrick Catholic Church (12424 Brogdon Ln, Baton Rouge, LA 70816) at 10:45 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream of the services will be available on St. Patrick’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/StPatrickBR/).
