Jacqueline Hughes

November 27, 1933 — November 19, 2020

Jacqueline Juanita Hughes, age 86, a resident of Prairieville, LA, passed away on November 19, 2020. Jacqueline, also known as Jackie and Maw maw Jackie, was born on November 27, 1933 in Hodge, LA. Jackie graduated from Jonesboro High School. Jacqueline married William J. Hughes of Hodge, LA. She earned a Bachelor degree in education from McNeese University and a Master degree in education from Louisiana State University. Jackie was an elementary school teacher and librarian at Whitehills Elementary school in Baker, LA.

Jackie loved books, and her story will begin with a quote. Saint Francis de Sales said, “Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength.” To know her, was to love her. Along with her inner strength she possessed a mischievous spirit. Jackie had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed playing tricks. She was a lady of uncompromising integrity and honesty who had an uncanny ability to connect with people. She liked to read her newspaper every morning, work crossword puzzles, feed the birds, eat raisinets and peanut brittle and talk to family and friends on the phone. She loved all animals especially her dog Prissy. Her greatest passion was family. Jackie kept journals of things her grandchildren did. She wrote comical poems and spent countless hours playing. She was not only a mother and grandmother to her immediate family but to her nieces and nephews when they attended LSU. Jackie was a devout Christian who loved life. A truly good person (as exemplified by Jesus Christ) she will be dearly missed. Maw Maw Jackie will be remembered for her immense kindness. May she rest in eternal peace with our God in heaven.

Jacqueline is survived by her son Keith Hughes and wife Brenda, Sister Carol Hayes, granddaughter Brett Bourque and husband Clay, granddaughter Abby Hughes, great grandson Owen Bourque, and Reid Bourque, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband William J. Hughes, daughter Nancy A. Hughes, Sister Betty Jo Walsworth and husband Ted Walsworth, brother-in-law John Hayes, father James Horace Jordan, and mother Amboline Wheatly Jordan , and grandson Garrett Hunter Hughes.
