J Lea, Jr.

J. Leslie Lea, Jr. known to most as Bucky or Pop walked into heaven on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the age of 79. His beloved wife, Elizabeth Sue was there to hold his hand and lead him in to our precious Lord and Savior. He was a resident of Gonzales, LA. Born in Baton Rouge on July 8, 1937 to J. Leslie and Birdie Lea.

Our fun loving sweet Dad is survived by his sister, Marilyn Lusk, four daughters, Janis Bardsley and Todd Thompson, Cindy Shaffer, Johanna Jones, Melanie and Matthew Decou; a son, David Lea, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He graduated from Istrouma High School and served in the United States Army as a member of Military Police Corps.

For most of his life, he worked in the industrial painting industry, he worked for Cajun Painting and Gemco at ExxonMobil Baton Rouge prior to retiring. Later in his retirement years, he worked at Ralph's Market in Gonzales. He dearly loved working with Mr. Ronnie and the Ralph's family.

He so enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a loyal fan of LSU Tiger Athletics. Go Tigers!

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Sue; parents, J Leslie and Birdie Lea; daughter, Tammie Purpera; son in law, Robert Bardsley and brother in law, Joseph Lusk.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 11:00 AM until Funeral Service at 2 PM conducted by Pastor Robby Dickerson from Central Baptist Church of Gonzales, LA. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Pallbearers will be Mitch Bardsley, Matthew, Phillip and Jordan Decou, Brandon Shaffer and Todd Thompson. Honorary Pallbearer, David Lea.

Pop's family would like to extend a special thanks for the comfort and care given by all his doctors, their staff and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. We especially want to thank the Ralph's Market Family for all their love and support.
