Ivy Creel, Sr.

October 16, 1917 — December 2, 2013

Ivy Creel, Sr. passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, at the age of 96. He was a World War II veteran of the 9th Army, educator, husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and beloved patriarch of the Creel family. Ivy was born in Joyce, LA, and was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Ivy served as a County Agent with the LSU Agriculture Extension Service for approximately 30 years he has been affectionately remembered by many who participated in 4H during their school years, as well as farmers whose problems he helped solve. Affectionately known to family and friends as PaPa Creel or Uncle Ivy, many came to know and love him through his online CaringBridge.org site which was developed to post photos and update familyfriends on his health. Throughout his lifes journey, PaPa Ivy maintained his characteristic sense of humor and love of spinning yarns. His gentle dignity and sense of mutual respect seemed to charm each person with whom he came in contact the staff of The Haven at Windemere, where he lived these last few months and all the aides who faithfully cared for him fell in love with the man Even to the end he was a true Southern gentleman. He is survived by his sons, Randolph Creel and wife Sher and son Richard Creel. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Randy Creel, III, and wife Aggie Adrienne Creel and mother Penny Mitchell Shawn Guins Brittany and Kaeli Creel and greatgrandchildren, Jacob and wife Tasha, and Danielle Creel, and Carter and Ceatan Guins. He is also survived by his sister, Jerline Creel Jordan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Harriet Wyatt Creel his parents, Frank and Gerusha Creel and siblings: Aaron Creel Dewey Creel Ruby Creel Rajcan Silas Creel John Creel Cortez Creel Hezzie Creel Julian Creel and Myrtle Creel Gregory. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church, he could be counted on for memorable contributions to the Eastland Bible class he truly enjoyed his friends there. We would like to thank the nurses and staff with Clarity Hospice and MedPass for their caring, professional manner and the affection they lavished on our loved one. Thanks too to the staff and attendants at the Haven for their compassionate care during his final months of life you understood and took care of him when his love of that little red button was just to have company. We would also like to thank his sitters, Barbara, Janice and Flossie for their sweet talks with him and efforts to keep him comfortable, able to sleep. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home at 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Friday, December 6, starting at 11 a.m., until services in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
