Ivel Mae Sentilles Cangelosi died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on Feb. 28, 1918, in Bayou Goula. She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes W. and Raoul Sentilles; three brothers, Robert, Russell and Louis Henry Sentilles; a sister, Rita Sentilles Hebert; and beloved husband, Joseph Daniel Cangelosi. She is survived by her three children, Joseph Cangelosi Jr., Rebecca Cangelosi and Vicki Cangelosi Machen; grandchildren, Robert Joseph Cangelosi and Sarah Cangelosi; great-grandson, Daniel Cangelosi; a sister, Carolyn S. Gang; nieces and nephews, Gina Sentilles, Pat Hebert, Stan Hebert, Sophie Halverson and Nellie Marino. She is also survived by great-nieces and great-nephews, Nicole Babin, Sage Halverson, Seth Halverson, Angela Marino, Regina Marino, Andrew Marino and Monique Marino. And last, her fine four-legged furred friends, Mini Moo, Sport, Toby and Lucky Dog. Ivel attended LSU and was a graduate from business school. She also took many side courses at LSU while working. She worked for more than 44 years as an executive assistant to the director of the Louisiana Department of Commerce and Industry. During this time she was an adventurous traveler throughout the United States and Canada, always having one of her kids with her. She was determined, hard-working and strong-willed. When health permitted, she was an active member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Christ the King Chapel on the LSU campus. She was an avid LSU football fan. Ivel will be remembered by many as Lil Bird for her famous tweet tweet and her love of Tom Jones. The family would like to give special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice for the expert care and love given to Miss Ivel. A double graveside service for Ivel and her brother, Henry, will be conducted by the Rev. Gerald Henry Burns of St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Friday, Dec. 19, at 1:30 p.m., at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway. The service will be in the mausoleum chapel. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Cangelosi, Rebecca Cangelosi, Mary Louise Johnson, Joseph Cangelosi Jr., Warren Hebert, Pat Hebert, Stan Hebert, Kurt Thomas, Patrick Paul Hawley, James Ernest, Gene Dixon and Pepper Whittington.
