A retired salesman with Coleman Oldsmobile, he died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct 11, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 87 and a resident and native of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. Visiting at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 9:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jerry Martin. Interment in St. Gabriel Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Gabriel. Survived by his wife, Virginia Wintz Contine; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye C. and John W. Liles, Margie C. and Pete Holmes and Lauren C. and Jim McGowan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald E. and Denise M. Contine, and Michael A. Contine; two sisters, Margery Layton and Patricia Roy; brother, Dr. Ned Arnold 'Tom' Contine; 10 grandchildren, Blake Contine, Drew Contine, Dustin Contine, Shawn Contine, Lindsey Liles Dziuba, Shane Liles, Emily Holmes, Trent Holmes, Sophie McGowan and Sadie McGowan; and four great-grandchildren, Landry and Lane Dziuba, Hayes Contine and Nathan Contine. Preceded in death by his parents, Isadore and Camille Contine. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
