Matthew 19:14 A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Goodrich, North Dakota, she died Monday, April 8, 2013, after a short illness. She was 83. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her vocation as a professional educator was a natural expression of her love for children and learning. After retiring from the classroom in East Baton Rouge Parish as an elementary and middle school teacher, she continued her teaching career for nearly two more decades as a private tutor. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Eleon Sandau two daughters, Mary Lewis of Angleton, Texas, and Karilon Kilpatrick and husband David of Chapel Hill, North Carolina sons, Paul Sandau and wife Cherris, John Sandau and wife Maria of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Clark Sandau of Zachary sisters, Diana Hoogestraat of Brookings, South Dakota, and Gloria Weber of Bismarck, North Dakota brother, Albert Schmidt Jr. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota 19 grandchildren and 28 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Alvina Schmidt daughter, Cherry Turner and granddaughter, Naomi Sandau. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 58 p.m. and will resume on Friday, April 12, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
