Irene Shiel Allbritton

Irene S. Allbritton of Gonzales, passed away on August 20th, at the age of 89.

Irene was born in Jonesville, Louisiana. She graduated from Jena High School in 1953, married Allan R. Allbritton in 1953 and then graduated from Louisiana State University in 1956. She worked in the dairy science lab at Texas A&M while her husband, Allan, went to veterinary school.

After Allan finished veterinary school, they lived in Marksville, Louisiana, Columbia, Missouri, and Starkville, Mississippi before moving to Gonzales in 1972. Allan and Irene worked alongside each other at the Gonzales Animal Clinic for many years.

Irene was a long-time member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Gonzales. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Fred Shiel of Jena and her brother Fred Shiel Jr. of Baton Rouge. 

Irene is survived by her five smart and beautiful daughters, Dr. Susan Murphy (Terry) of Massachusetts, Dr. Nancy Allbritton (Chris) of Washington, Sherry Jane Love of Arizona, Mary Ann Allbritton (Thomas) of Oklahoma, and Dr. Jill Allbritton of Maryland. Irene is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Private services and burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Memorial Mass to be held later.
