Inocente N. Gongora Sr., fondly known as "Robert" and "Chico", resident of Baton Rouge and husband of Antoinette Gongora, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the age of 53.
He was born in Belize City, Belize on September 26, 1962, son of Gurthell (Morrison) Gongora and the late Eufemio Gongora Sr. In 1978, he migrated to the United States and lived in New York and Chicago before settling in Baton Rouge.
Inocente was a loyal and dedicated employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years. He loved sports and played soccer as a young man, which eventually grew into coaching at the high school level. His love of the outdoors and water fueled his passion for fishing. Inocente's other hobbies included traveling and watching movies; anyone who knew him knew his favorite movies were martial arts.
His friendliness and kindness to all people, and his devotion and love for his family and friends is a tribute to the beauty of his heart and soul. His inspiring presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to have known him.
Besides his wife and mother, Inocente is survived by his children, Inocente Gongora Jr., Kerole Gongora-Williams, Akie Harris Sr., Jane Nguyen, and Ronald Jablonowski; sisters, Rosita Reneau, Bernice Gongora-Mortis, Louise Gongora-Robateau, Catherine Gladden, Dorita Gongora and Rose Castillo; brothers, Leopold, Raymond and Enrique "Ricky" Gongora; grandchildren, Miasia, Arianna, and Layla Williams, Saniya and Akie Harris Jr., and Damian Jablonowski; aunts, Merlene Ward and Maybelle Shepard; uncle, Floyd Morisson and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Inocente was also preceded in death by his brother, Eufemio Gongora Jr.; sister, Juanita McKoy; and niece, Tanya Ferguson.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, from 12:00 pm until services at 2:00 pm.
