A retired hospital maintenance engineer, he died at 2:44 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 90 and a native of Washington. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Dec. 26, from noon until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Mike Collins. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his wife, Adelie Stephens; two daughters, Sharon Jeffers and husband Mark, of Richmond, Texas, and Barbara Cody, of Baton Rouge; son, Brady Stephens, of Baton Rouge; sister, Una Sacco, of Kenner; brothers, Alfred Stephens Jr. and Russell Stephens; grandchildren, Tania Stephens, Laurel Jeffers, Michael Jeffers and Matt Cody; and great-grandchildren, Emma Jeffers, Annalise Jeffers, Micah Jeffers and Alexandra Stephens. Preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Wade Cody. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 751st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gunner BN, machine gunner 605 in the Western Pacific and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star and seven overseas service bars. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
