Hollis Dale Chapman, born on May 28, 1936, passed away on November 3, 2024, at the age of 88.
Hollis was born in Beaumont, TX. He graduated with his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from LSU, as well as his PhD from Texas A&M University. He was a College Research Professor until his retirement. Hollis enjoyed hunting and traveling with his family. Throughout Hollis’s career, he published many research papers that were accepted by the International Journal of Animal Science and can be found on Oxford University Press. He was awarded the Sears Research Award in 1971. He enjoyed teaching and research at the various universities and traveling as an international consultant and cattle judge.
Hollis is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bonnie Courville Chapman; daughter, Celeste Chapman Buffone (Paul); son, Eric Dale Chapman (Janel); grandchildren, Brigette Thomas (Corey), Natalie Delahoussaye (Brien), Jared Chapman (Nina), Michael Chapman, Amelia Buffone, and Juliette Buffone; and great-grandchildren, Isaac and Camille Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ison and Alice Chapman; son, Richard Clay Chapman; and sister, Sherrell LeBouef.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice in His Name and Clarity Hospice at The Crossing.
Visitation will take place on Monday, November 11, 2024, at St. George Catholic Church, beginning at 10:00 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery.
