Hilda Fletcher

January 21, 1937 — June 17, 2021

Hilda Margarita Fernandez Fletcher, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana spent 84 years on this earth and was finally called to her heavenly home on Thursday, June 17, 2021. She succumbed to an extended illness peacefully, surrounded by her family, sitters and hospice team. She has joined her late husband, Don Fletcher, and many relatives including her parents and sister. It brings Hilda's family great comfort knowing that they are enjoying eternal life next to our heavenly father.

She will be missed tremendously by her children Paul (Joel) Fletcher, Alicia (Jim) Ford, and Annette (Troy) Fruge. She also leaves behind her beloved Fletcher grandchildren, Austin (Kayla), Stephen (Bonnie), and Ashton; the beloved Ford grandchildren, James and Conor; and the beloved Gaudet grandchildren, Victoria, Alexa and Gabby. She was so happy to meet and hold her great-grandson Thomas Paul Fletcher (Austin & Kayla) this past year. It brought her so much joy!

Hilda was born in Colon, Panama to Alicia Fernandez Guardia and Aristides Fernandez on January 21, 1937. She was the loving sister of Aristides "Tipy" Fernandez and the late Elba Fernandez Costopanajotis. She was aunt to many nieces and nephews but was fondest of Argie Costopanajotis. They formed a beautiful relationship over the years that brought Hilda great comfort.

Hilda was a strong, God-centered woman with an unconditional love for all. Her greatest joy was sharing in the joy of family gatherings and the successes and challenges of her family. She grew up in Panama, attended Barry College in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she met her husband, Don Fletcher.  They embarked on a beautiful journey that took them to Panama and later Louisiana. They were married 57 glorious years and raised three loving children. In the end, the greatest honor isn't achievement or success in life. It is honoring your parents in their time of greatest need.

Hilda enjoyed a beautiful relationship with her daughter-in-law, Joel (Paul). Joel was a wonderful advocate for mom's care and tirelessly tended to her needs. Hilda was deeply grateful and honored by her selfless devotion. Joel became her third daughter and valiant guardian. The Fletcher family is so thankful for Joel's years of devotions to both Hilda and Don.

Hilda has requested a private funeral and burial. Her children intend to honor her wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hilda's favorite organizations: the Louisiana Special Olympics (laso.org/memorials) or Saint Joseph Abbey (www.saintjosephabbey.com) May the good Lord bless all of you who have sent comforting words and wishes.
