Herbert Olson

Herbert Granville Olson, passed away on October 22, 2016 at OLOL Hospital.

He was born on June 23, 1925 in Quincy, Massachusetts. He graduated from Quincy High School and served in the US Air Force. After serving in the Air Force, he entered college and graduated from Northeastern University with a Chemical Engineering Degree. After graduation, a job interview with Ethyl Corporation brought him to Baton Rouge. One visit was enough. Job accepted, a move south and soon after he met Hildred. They celebrated their 61th year anniversary this past June.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Granville Olson and Hazel Price Olson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Hildred Mobley Olson; his children, Mark G. Olson of Baton Rouge, LA., Kristi Olson of Reno, NV., and Todd Olson of Lawrence, MA.; his sister, Hazel Olson Brown of St. Petersburg, FL.; his grandchildren, Lori Olson, Angela, Lewis and Lee Olson of Baton Rouge, LA.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Herbs delight and pride was spending summers at their vacation house in Cape Cod, MA., which Herb and his late father built in 1948. Many of Herb and Hildreds friends from Baton Rouge and the Southeast United States booked their vacation week well in advance to be included in the boating, lobster trapping and clamming. Herb and Hildred just returned in early October from their summer stay on Cape Cod.

Herb was an active member of The Broadmoor Baptist Church and served in the capacity of deacon and various boards and committees. He was also a 32nd degree MASON and in the Shriners organization. Wednesday night dinners and social gatherings were a weekly event that were not missed, followed by Bible Study, which he enjoyed.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA., from 9:00am until a Memorial Service at 11:00am.
